UHACK 2023

HACKA...WHAT?!?

Bringing together creative individuals, a hackathon is a prototyping competition that challenges participants to solve complex problems in a short period of time, usually 48 hours. Participants with various skill sets (design, multimedia, data management, coding, management, etc.) come together in teams to develop THE digital solution that will impress the panel of judges and earn first place.

UHACK 2023

Under the theme “Outaouais Connected”, UHACK 2023 offers you the chance to solve real problems faced by businesses and organizations in YOUR region. It’s an opportunity to collaborate with other students who, like you, are creative, passionate about technology and like to think outside the box. Want to work in a team to design innovative digital solutions that will have an impact right here, right now? Join the #uhack movement!

FAQ

  • Why participate?

Participating in UHACK is a hands-on learning experience like no other. It’s an event that pushes you to collaborate with people who have different experience and knowledge than you do. It forces you to step out of your comfort zone and think outside the box, to find an innovative solution to a real problem.

Participating in UHACK also allows you to meet new people, expand your network, get known by industry pros and, who knows, maybe even get a job!

Oh! There’s also a ton of prizes to be won. Big, BIG prizes.

    If you’re convinced sign up!!

  • Who can participate?

Any high school (secondary 3 to 5), college or university student in the Outaouais region with an interest in digital technology can join.

  • How much does it cost?

UHACK is a free event. Because thinking on an empty stomach is rarely effective and frankly unpleasant, we even offer you lunch, snacks and beverages!

  • I have no coding experience. Can I participate?

Absolutely! A Hackathon is basically a marathon of ideas. If you are creative and like to solve problems, this event is for you! However, keep in mind that most of the activities organized during UHACK have a technical aspect (e.g., coding). In addition, some of the criteria evaluated by the jury during the presentation will focus on the project’s technical aspects. If you have limited coding experience, we strongly encourage you to team up with people who are experienced programmers.

  • Does UHACK take place virtually or in person?

The 2023 edition of the UHACK will be held in person.*

    * If we are faced with a state of health emergency related to COVID-19, the format of the event will be adjusted to respect the Quebec government’s instructions.

  • How do I register?

Simply fill out the registration form. The organizing committee will then contact you to give you all the necessary details.

  • I would like to come with my friends. Is it possible to register as a team?

Yes, you can! Just let us know in the registration form.

  • How many people can be part of a team?

A team can have 2 to 5 members.

  • I don't have a team. Can I register alone?

Of course you can! An “icebreaker” activity will allow you to meet new people and form a team.

  • What will be the problem to be solved during the UHACK?

The problem will be related to a challenge experienced by a company or organization in the Outaouais.

  • I did not find the answer to my question in the FAQ. What do I do?

Email us at uhack@uqo.ca or write to us on our Instragram page @uhack_2023. A member of the organizing committee will quickly answer your question.
